Estimating horizontal movement performance of patient beds and the impact on emergency evacuation time

Emergency evacuation of patients from a hospital can be challenging in the event fire. Most emergency studies are based on assumption that pedestrians ambulant and egress by themselves. However, this is often not case during evacuations healthcare facilities such as hospitals nursing homes. To investigate facilities, we performed series controlled experiments to study dynamics patient beds horizontal movement. We considered bed because it one commonly used devices transport within facilities. Through experiments, examined change velocity corner turning movements speed reductions multiple trips between both ends straight corridor. Based experimental results, then developed mathematical model total time prediction for horizontally moving facility. Factoring uncertainty movement, produced probability distribution movement duration estimated an safely certain amount time. In addition, predicted would longer than results existing which assumes constant speed. Our demonstrated good agreement with our results.
